John Clifton Back, Jr., affectionately known as “J.C.” age 42, of Winston, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, with is family by his side. He was born on April 4, 1983, the son of Cliff and Donna Back.
J.C. was a remarkable individual whose life was a testament to the beauty of resilience and joy. He was known for his gentle soul and he had a unique way of taking life one minute at a time. His unwavering positive spirit shone brightly, as he confronted life's challenges without complaining. He had the heart of a true fighter who never gives up. Regardless of the circumstances surrounding him, J.C. was always happy and always fine. He was a superhero to his family and his nurturing presence and unconditional love were the corners of strength upon which they leaned. J.C. was also a phenomenal photographer, who had an extraordinary talent for capturing nature and scriptures.
In addition to his passion for photography, J.C. found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had an affectionate love for the beach and a fascination with sea turtles.
J.C. was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Marie Dampier, paternal grandfather, Johnny Lee Back, maternal step-grandfather, Eddie “Ed’ Hardage, and maternal step-grandmother, Fran Stripling.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Nic and Becky Back of Winston; niece, Alyvia; maternal grandparents, Fred and Shirley Stripling; paternal step-grandfather, Jim Dampier and step-grandmother, Darlene Back; special friend, Donna “Grammy” Freeman; paternal aunts and uncles, Nancy, Diana (Greg), Alyce; maternal aunts and uncles, Barbara, Fred Jr., Tim (Melinda) and Gayla (Jerome); and numerous cousins.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 18, 2026 from 1:30 PM until 3:30 PM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Villa Rica Chapel. J.C. will lie in state on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM with funeral services at 1:00 PM at Friendship Baptist Church in Dry Branch, Georgia. Interment will follow at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery in Dry Branch, Georgia.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Nic Back, Tim Stripling, Fred Stripling, Jr., and A.J. Newcomb.
Perennial plants are accepted, however; donations can be made to Ocean Hour in memory of J.C. Back.
As we remember J.C., we honor not just the man he was but the profound impact he left on our hearts. His legacy will forever resonate through the photographs he took, the smiles he shared, and his infectious spirit he radiated.
John Clifton Back, Jr. will be deeply missed, but his memory will continue to inspire us all to appreciate the beauty in every moment and to face our challenges with courage and a smile.
