John Daniel (Danny) Price passed away at home in Douglasville, GA on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 after battling a number of health issues. He was born on December 1, 1951 in Birmingham, AL (Jefferson County) to Hilary Truman and Mary Agnes Taylor Price. At the age of 17 he joined the U.S. Army and left for training at Ft. Benning, GA. After training he was sent to Korea and on to Vietnam. Shortly after returning to the States, Danny began working for Southern Railway as a brakeman/switchman where he earned his nickname Preacher. Preacher went on to become a conductor and then an engineer. For several years he worked as an Operation Lifesaver instructor, traveling over the South East educating the public in railroad crossing safety. His greatest joy was his grandkids. Preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law Janelle M. Weaver, Preacher is survived by his wife of 35 years Sue Weaver Price, daughters, Carrie Samantha Kolar (David) of Lithia Springs, GA, Phoebe Janelle Price of Douglasville, GA, sons Hilary Clellan Price (Corie) of Douglasville, GA, and Simon Daniel Price (Stephanie) of Pinson, AL and grandchildren Lawson, Daniel, Gavin, Anson, and Lucie. He is also survived by Jennifer Welch, sister Mary Ann Norris (Jerry) of New Bern, NC, and brothers Truman Price (Jeanne) of Empire, AL, and Steve Price (Patty) of Biloxi, MS, father in law Henry C. Weaver, Sr. of Marion, AL, sister in law Lucy W. Kynard (Mike) of Marion, AL, brother in law Sonny Weaver (Connie) of Greensboro, AL, sister in law Vicky McPheron of Denver, CO, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, and his loyal canine companion Mama Cass. A celebration of life event will be planned for May 20th at the family home in Douglasville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Judeâs Hospital or any Veteranâs Charity.
