John W. Sorbet, LTC, US Army Retired, age 92, of Carrollton, Georgia passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019. He was born June 28, 1926 in Perry, Louisiana, the son of the late Robert and Amanda Sorbet. John had 33 years in the military, serving 3 in the Navy, 3 in the Army Reserve and 27 in the Army. He was a veteran of three wars - WWII, Korea and Vietnam. After he left the service, he moved to Douglas County, Georgia, working for Sara Lee until his retirement.John loved gardening, creating beautiful spaces wherever he lived as long as he was able. He traveled extensively across Europe with his family and all over the United States, sightseeing and visiting his widespread and extended family. He looked forward to his Friday morning breakfasts with his friends, swapping war stories and tall tales. He found a true friend in his pastor. John loved to talk and enjoyed the company of others, especially over a good meal with lively conversation. âHe was the best fisherman who never caught a fish.âIn addition to his parents, Mr. Sorbet was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Ann Sorbet; wives, Ida Sorbet, Marylin Sorbet and Charlsie Sorbet. He is survived by his brother, George and his sisters, Mabel, Shirley, Sylvia, Betty and Beverly; his children, John, Mary, Robert, Elizabeth, Joseph, Jean, James and Michael; 12 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; his dear friend, Tom; and several nieces and nephews also survive.The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Boswell officiating. Interment with military honors provided by American Legion Post 143 will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in College Park, Georgia. A celebration of life with food and drink provided will be held following the interment, Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 4:00 PM at the Blue Rose Bistro, 12441 Veterans Memorial Highway, Douglasville, Georgia 30134.
