Mr. John William Stewart Jr., age 70, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015. Born May 3, 1945 in Philadelphia PA, he was the Son of the late Irene (Leslie) and John W Stewart Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister Christine Yeager of Altoona, PA.Survived by Peggy his loving wife of 40 years; Sons Brad and Kim Ascar of Douglasville, Chad and Maleah Stewart of Cumming, Eric Stewart of Southampton, England, Matt and Rebecca Stewart of Roswell, and son through foreign exchange program Eduardo Flores of Mexico City, Mexico; Grandchildren Grace Ascar, Grayson and Rylan Stewart; Sisters Elizabeth Tull and Tom Brodzina, Grace and Bill Beere of Altoona, PA; Brother Tom McConnell and Chrys Sebula of Irwin, PA. Brother in laws Alan and Sandy Morrison of Midland, MI and Dennis and Jeannie Morrison of Dublin, CA; Grandpets Fiona and Scarlett.He proudly served in the US Air Force from 1964-1968 as a pilot. John flew as a corporate and charter pilot and flight instructor. He made a career in the FAA as an air traffic controller, control supervisor, trainer, ATC Federal investigator and as a contracted consultant after retiring with 30 years of service in 2004. He was also a teacher at CS Mott College. He was a published author of 5 books and one soon to be published. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed volunteering at food pantries and Habitat for Humanity. He was affectionately referred to as âOgreâ by those who loved him. Memorial service officiated by Rev. James Harper will be held Saturday May 9th, 11am at John's home church: First Presbyterian Church 9190 Campbellton St Douglasville, GA 30134. The family will receive visitors prior to the service starting at 9:30am. John would have been pleased to see donations in lieu of flowers.
