John Swanson

Mr. John William “J.W.” Swanson, 91, of Villa Rica passed away, Sunday, April 9, 2017 at his residence. He was born June 27, 1925, in Villa Rica, Georgia the son of the late Stephen Phillip Swanson and the late Mrs. Hazel Faye Butler Swanson. He was a cabinet maker and was retired from the Carroll County Correctional Department where he was a Correctional Officer. He was a member of the New Brooklyn Baptist Church. Mr. Swanson’s family was very important to him. He loved children and would always give to them, which made them very happy and brought him great joy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife Buna Swanson, 2 children, Larry Swanson and John W. Swanson, Jr., 4 brothers, Earnest Swanson, Stephen Swanson, Jack Swanson and Herman Swanson, and 2 sisters, Betty Stephens and Madeline Goza. Survivors include his sons, Ronnie Swanson and Jimmy Ray Swanson both of Temple, his first wife and the mother of his children, Myrl Nolen of Villa Rica, sister and brother-in-law, Bobbie and Jimmie Daniell of Temple, 7 grandchildren, several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Wednesday, April 12, 2017 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM as Mr. Swanson lies in state at the church. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 11:00 AM from the New Brooklyn Baptist Church with Rev. Milford Ballenger officiating. Interment will follow in the New Brooklyn Cemetery.
