Johnnie Marlon Blackwell, 80, of Villa Rica, GA, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2025. He was born on December 17, 1944, the son of the late Rupert Blackwell and the late Essie Short Blackwell.
John lived a life rich with experiences, dedication, and love for his family and friends.
John had a long and fulfilling career as a Manufacturer Manager for Flowers Baking Company. His passion for baking was evident as he managed for over 40 years, a testament to his commitment to quality and service in the industry. After a distinguished career, he retired in April 2010, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and a reputation for excellence.
A sports enthusiast at heart, John was an ardent fan of the Auburn Tigers and the Atlanta Braves. He was not just a spectator but also an athlete in his youth, having played basketball, baseball, and football in high school, where he earned letters in his respective sports all four years in high school. His love for athletic pursuits continued throughout his life, and he enjoyed many weekends hunting, golfing, and embracing the great outdoors.
Beyond his passions, John was known to be a kind and generous soul. He was a quiet presence, yet he made a significant impact on those around him through his easygoing nature and willingness to lend a helping hand. His appreciation for history sparked many engaging conversations and delighted friends and family alike.
John was a proud family man whose greatest joys came from traveling with loved ones and making cherished memories. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a doting grandfather, whose family will always remember the warmth and kindness he brought into their lives.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his former wife Jacqueline Pursell Blackwell; son, Charles Weaver; brothers, Melvin Blackwell, Wyndelle Blackwell, and Kenneth Blackwell; and his sister, Phyllis Blackwell.
He is survived by his loving wife Leneva Loggins Blackwell; daughters, Debbie Cobb, Vicki (Orlando) Arjona, Lisa (Clete) Luartes, and Tricia (Matt) Rountree; sons, Don (Tanya) Weaver, Doug (Jamie) Weaver, John “Bo” (Susie) Blackwell, and Jim (Lesley) Anderson; twenty-three grandchildren; thirty-one, great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive family and friends on Saturday, November 29th from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Douglasville, GA. The Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 PM with Dr. John Pennington and Pastor Danny West officiating.
Interment will be at Pineridge Memorial Park, Kennesaw, GA on Monday, December 1, 2025 at 12:00 PM.
As we remember John, we celebrate a life well-lived; a man who balanced his career with his passions, and who will forever be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire those who follow.
