Mr. Joseph Dotson Davis, age 90, of Douglasville, passed away Friday, May 17, 2013. He was born February 24, 1923 the son of the late Mr. Sidney Guthrie Davis and the late Mrs. Minnie Payne Davis. While serving in the United States Army, he was captured during the Battle of the Buldge and held as a POW during WWII. He received many medals during his service including the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, POW and Infantry in Combat. Mr. Davis worked for APAC Company for many years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Lithia Springs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Frances Ruth Sharp Davis; brothers, Murphy Davis, Percy Davis, Curtis Davis and Troy Davis; sisters, Mary Ruth Wilson and Willie Mae Wood.He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Marilyn and Donnie Freeman of Douglasville, Beverly Reagin of Villa Rica; sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Herbert Woods of Tuscaloosa, AL; brother, Newman Reed Davis of Tuscaloosa, AL; four grandchildren, Carmen and Scott Maxwell of Douglasville, Joseph Freeman of Douglasville, Joshua Freeman and Kelsey Bagwell of Douglasville, Janet and Jamie Hardy of Douglasville; six great-grandchildren, Halie Maxwell of Douglasville, Leigh Maxwell of Douglasville, Cameron Hardy of Douglasville, Jackson Hardy of Douglasville, Jordan Hardy of Douglasville and Mason Freeman of Douglasville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville, Sunday, May 19, 2013 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, May 20, 2013 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin McKoy, Rev. Mike Sinyard and Dr. Marion Beaver officiating. Honorary Escort will be provided by Claude Fosterâs Sunday School Class. Interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
