Joseph "Joe" Thurmon Thigpen

Mr. Joseph Thurmon Thigpen, age 65, of Douglasville, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 11, 2007. Joe was born January 5, 1942 in Chattanooga, TN to Bennie Felix and Jeanette Entrekin Thigpen. Joe was preceded in death by his father, Bennie and a younger brother, Ronnie. He was a baptized believer in Jesus Christ, and a member of Central Baptist Church. Joe retired from Ford Motor Company in Hapeville, Georgia and Manheim’s Georgia Dealers Auto Auction in Atlanta, Georgia. Joe is survived by his wife of 46 years, Gwen, his three daughters, Sheryl and David Clay of Douglasville, Cathy and Bill Bass of Titusville, FL and Teresa Thigpen of Douglasville; three grandsons, Ryan Joseph, Matthew David and Joshua Lee Clay all of Douglasville; He is also survived by his mother, Jeanette and Gene Wilkes of Douglasville; two brothers, Ray and Nancy Thigpen of Douglasville, and Ricky and June Thigpen of Villa Rica; and one sister, Novie and Randy Seay of Griffin, GA and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and his beloved golden retriever, Goldie. The family wants to thank the McKelvey Lung Transplant Center at Emory University Hospital for their dedication and care of Joe during his double lung transplant on April 23, 2007. Special thanks also go to the nursing staff of Emory for their devoted care of Joe during his hospitalization. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, June 14, 2007 at 2:00 PM from the Douglas Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Dr. Garry Eudy and Rev. Charles Gibbs officiating. Interment will follow at Meadowbrook Memory Gardens in Villa Rica. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel Wednesday, June 13, 2007 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
