Joseph Luther Mosley was born on March 1st, 1946, in Saint Louis, Missouri, the twelfth of sixteen siblings from the union of his parents, Matthew Sr. & Celeste Mosley. He passed away at his home in the early morning of Thursday, April 4th, 2024, holding his beloved wife’s hand.
Joe’s family moved to Kansas City in the late 1950s, and it was there he met and later married his high school sweetheart, Patricia O’Connell. Joe and Pat moved to Michigan in 1966 and were the parents of two beautiful daughters, Sherry and Sharon. Joe and Pat spent their entire married life in Michigan before moving to Georgia in 2014. They were married for 59 years before being parted by Joseph’s passing.
Joe Mosley was a devoted family man. He often bragged about his family, especially his brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. However, his two daughters and three grandsons were his pride and joy, and he loved sharing details of their lives with everyone he met.
“Joe Mo” worked for General Motors for thirty years before retiring in 1996. He also drove for over a decade after retirement for Corporate Auto and Blue Lakes Charters and Tours.
Joseph loved music. He joined the “Fife Drum and Bugle Corps” in high school and never lost his love of music. Writing songs was his passion; everyone who knew him has a story about his infamous “demo tapes” and short tenure with Jobete Music and Motown Records.
An avid history buff, Joseph enjoyed learning about the past. He loved watching “sports,” especially with his brothers. His hat collection reflected his favorite team at any particular time. He was a lifelong fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, Detroit Pistons, Lions, and Golden State Warriors. He quickly became a dedicated fan of his new hometown teams: the Atlanta Falcons and Hawks.
Joseph took great pleasure in traveling, taking many trips across the country. He formed lasting friendships with Harry & Judy Payne, Arthur & Janie Smith, Cardell & Mabel Lynch, and Tom & Leola Washington. For more than 40 years, this group of friends took turns having cookouts and hosting card parties - and it was only natural “Joe and Pat's” basement parties were epic. He quickly cherished all new friendships created in Haven Circle.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew Sr. and Celeste Mosley, and his siblings: Robert, Elizabeth, Ida, Eddie, Della, Evelyn, Matthew Jr., and Daisy.
Mr. Mosley is survived by his loving wife, Patricia, and daughters, Sherry (Hassan) McKinney-Nurullah and Sharon (Clarence Jr.) Hixon; sisters Ruth Barge and Shirley Mosley; and brothers William (Beatrice) Mosley and Larry Mosley. He is also survived by three grandsons, Joseph McKinney, Clarence Hixon III, and Michael Hixon, as well as many family and friends.
Thank You for taking us on an “Emotional High and Low” Joseph Luther Mosley.
