Josephine Sue Rivers

October 1, 1951 — March 1, 2026

Douglasville

Josephine Sue Rivers of Douglasville, Georgia, was born on October 1, 1951, in Louisville, Kentucky. Sue won the victory over death on Sunday evening, March 1, 2026, at her home in Douglasville. Georgia. We feel sure she was greeted by Heavenly Father, Jesus, and her other loved ones already on the other side of the veil.

Sue was known to some of her family as Susie. She lived to exemplify her love and commitment to Christ through her daily walk. In her service to others, she genuinely showed compassion, love and concern with no thought of herself. Susie had a beautiful radiant smile that reflected the countenance of the pure love of Christ. She provided countless acts of service to many. She was very loyal, devoted and dedicated to her family and friends. Susie shared the gospel through her words, deeds and the Christ-like example she lived. Being a valiant daughter of God, she made this world a better place by blessing the lives of all those who know her. There is no doubt that she was greeted with the words, “Well done thou good and faithful servant."

Susie moved to Georgia and worked at AT&T as a Maintenance Manager for 30 years before retiring in 2016. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, her callings mostly included serving the children in the Primary Program. Serving in the Temple allotted her time to serve others in her favorite place, The House of the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Alexandra Elizabeth Jones of Douglasville, her biological mother, Dolores Frasemer, her biological paternal grandmother, Lola Mary Kessinger, who she called “Mama” because she raised Sue, her father, Eugene Donald Schagene, her beloved Aunt Anna, her brothers, Timothy Schagene and Mark Lehner.

Josephine Sue Rivers is survived by her husband, Rodney Larry Rivers, Sr. of Douglasville, her daughters, Anna Elizabeth (Michael) Jones of Douglasville. Amanda Jo (Joshua) Carroll of Pensacola, Florida, her son David Richard (Jamie) Holton of Dallas, GA, stepdaughters, Layla (Ken) Torkelson of Acworth, Natalie Gilmer of Statham, GA, and stepson, Rodney Rivers, Jr. of Peachtree City, her daughter-in-love, Lori Rivers, her sister, Star Lehner of Alabama, her brother, Donnie Schagene of Louisville, KY. 20 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and her sister by choice and best friend, Stacey Lee Moore of Statesboro.
