Joyce Jane Wilson Salerno

Joyce Jane Salerno, 81, of Villa Rica, formally of Verona, New York, passed away on May 9, 2010 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born September 19, 1928, in Oneida, New York, to the late Kenneth and Hazel Collins Wilson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Bruce Leroy Wilson. Mrs. Salerno achieved the rank of Corporal in the United States Army, serving from 1950-1954. She was a Licensed Radiologic Technologist and was stationed at Walter Reed Medical Hospital in Washington, DC. During her years of service Mrs. Salerno had the honor of providing care to President Harry Truman and General (and future President) Dwight D. Eisenhower. After her honorable discharge from the military she continued her work in radiology in upstate New York. She moved to Avon Park, Florida with her husband Vincent upon his retirement in 1994, to pursue their favorite pastime, golf, and enjoy a life filled with sunshine and relaxation. They were able to have fifteen wonderful years enjoying their retirement, until Joyce’s health declined and they moved to Georgia in 2009 to be closer to Mrs. Salerno’s daughter and son-in-law. Mrs. Salerno is survived by Vincent, her loving husband of forty-nine years, her daughter and son-in-law Linda and Al Ostrander of Villa Rica, her son Bruce Salerno of Miami Beach, Florida, two grandchildren, Melissa Ostrander of Temple and Anthony Salerno of Miami Beach, Florida and one great granddaughter, Addison Reese Elsberry of Temple. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, May 10, 2010 at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica. Interment will follow at Meadowbrook Memory Gardens in Villa Rica.
