Karen Jeanette Shipley Burns, age 79, a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on April 23, 2024. She was born on March 20, 1945, in Redbank, Tennessee, to the late Mr. William Lawrence Shipley and the late Mrs. Syble Elmire Holland Shipley.
Karen was a woman of many talents and passions. She dedicated an impressive 49+ years to owning her own tag and title business, showcasing her strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. Additionally, Karen was actively involved in various organizations such as Women of the Moose and the Georgia Independent Automobile Dealer’s Association (GIADA), where she made lasting contributions and formed lifelong friendships. Beyond her professional achievements and community involvement, Karen found joy in simple pleasures like scouring yard sales and visiting family in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Karen's vibrant personality left a lasting impact on those around her. Described as classy, sassy, real, blunt, and matter-of-fact, Karen's presence would light up any room. Among Karen's proudest accomplishments were her cherished family. Her devotion to family was unwavering, and she found joy in being surrounded by loved ones.
In addition to her parents, Karen is predeceased by three sisters who have now welcomed her into eternal peace.
Karen is survived by her daughters, Debra (Scott) Anderson and Lisa (Vell) Young; grandchildren, Vell Young Jr., Justin Anderson, Cassie Young, Madison Messer, Ryan Messer, and Hayden Anderson; great-grandchild, Adeline Young; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 26, 2024 from 6:00 - 9:00 PM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Douglasville Chapel with Pastor Ronnie Zant officiating. Interment will be at Sunrise Gardens of Memories in Douglasville.
