Kermit Joseph Obermeyer, Jr. (Joe), 83, of Douglasville, GA, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2026. He was born on January 11, 1942, the son of the late Kermit Joseph Obermeyer, Sr. and the late Evelyn Virginia McLean Obermeyer.

Joe led a rich and fulfilling life, marked by personal achievements, cherished relationships, and a profound sense of duty.

Joe's passion for engineering was complemented by a vibrant personality that shone through in various facets of his life. His early years were filled with creativity, as he was part of a band known as "The Shades" and even hand-painted billboards, showcasing his artistic talent. He later became an esteemed Electronics Specialist, contributing his skills to the field throughout his career.

A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Joe played an active role during the Bay of Pigs and had the unique opportunity to travel the world, all while serving as a French translator in the United States Navy. His service was a source of pride, reflecting his commitment to his country and his dedication to excellence.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Joe had diverse interests that brought him joy. He found pleasure in target shooting and embraced the great outdoors through hiking and photography. Joe's love for nature often inspired his creative pursuits, and he delighted in sharing his adventures with others through his blogging.

As a "Pop Pop," he created lasting memories with his grandchildren, enjoying family game nights that often featured strategic board games like chess. Joe had a remarkable ability to connect with those around him, enriching the lives of his family and friends with his humor, warmth, and wisdom.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Eugene Francis Obermeyer.

He is survived by his loving wife Genia Primavera Obermeyer; sons, Matthew (Rebecca) Obermeyer of Marietta, GA, Eugene (Dawn) Obermeyer of Douglasville, GA, Darrell (Alisa) Obermeyer of Bremen, GA, and Steve (Kim) Obermeyer of Carrollton, GA; sister, Charlene (Joe Harris) Stickney of St. Petersburg, FL; brothers, Chuck (Tammy) Stickney of St. Petersburg, FL and George Stickney of St. Petersburg, FL; 21 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive family and friends on Saturday, January 17, 2026 from 4:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Douglas Chapel.

Interment will be on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at 9:30 AM at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.

Joe will be remembered not only for his contributions as an engineer and his honorable military service but also for his loving spirit and the joy he brought to those fortunate enough to know him.
