Larry Dean Baker, 82, of Douglasville, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026. He was born on June 25, 1944 in Rome, Georgia, the son of the late William Marvin Baker and Virginia Estelle White. Larry’s long and remarkable life was defined by his enduring spirit, steadfast values, and the deep affection he shared with his family and community.
Throughout his years, Larry distinguished himself by a tireless work ethic and a remarkable wit. He approached every aspect of his life with dedication and humor, bringing light and joy to those around him. His friends and loved ones knew him as a hard worker, a jokester, and someone with a quick, sharp wit, always ready to lighten the mood or offer a clever quip.
Larry’s passions were many and heartfelt. An avid outdoorsman, he found peace and contentment in hunting and fishing, pastimes that allowed him to connect with nature and share special moments with family and friends. His commitment to tradition and brotherhood was evident in his longstanding involvement with the Freemasons. For more than fifty years, Larry was a proud Mason, serving as Worshipful Master—an honor that spoke to his leadership, integrity, and the high esteem in which he was held by his peers.
Years spent in service to his country as a member of the Army instilled in Larry a sense of duty, honor, and patriotism that shaped the way he lived and served his community. He brought these values to every chapter of his life, enriching the lives of those fortunate enough to work alongside him or call him a friend.
Among Larry’s proudest accomplishments was the establishment and success of his own business. This endeavor was more than a professional milestone—it was a testament to his perseverance and entrepreneurial spirit. Yet above all else, Larry cherished his role as “Pawpaw.” Being a grandfather brought him immense joy and pride, and he spoke of it often as his life’s greatest achievement.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Larry Dean Baker Jr.; sisters Sharon Dowdy and Sandra Baker.
He is survived by his loving wife Nell Baker; daughter and son-in-law Dawn and Greg Perez of Calhoun, Georgia; grandchildren, Noah Baker (Crystal), Nicholas Baker, Nicole Perez-Ortiz (Alejandro), Nilisha Winstead (Devan), Bayleigh Baker, Bradley Baker, Corey Condrey, and Nathan Condrey; and numerous great-children.
