Larry Terrell Whorton, 79, of Temple, passed away on Saturday, February 28,2026. He was born on August 12, 1946, the son of the late Ottis William Whorton and Norma Lee Whorton.
Larry loved his family and his church family. He was a devoted deacon at Springdale Baptist Church and he played an integral role in the spiritual lives of many, offering guidance and support with a warm heart and open arms. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, reflecting his commitment to serve and bring joy to those around him.
Larry was a remarkable handyman, known for his ability to build and repair just about anything. Larry’s hobbies included fishing, playing golf, NASCAR, but especially baseball because he enjoyed watching his grandchildren play.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Gail Whorton; brothers, Harlan Whorton, and Billy Joe Whorton; sisters, Glenda Epling and Joyce Bobo.
He is survived by his wife, Sybol Trotter Whorton; sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Marissa Whorton of Douglasville, Michael and Shannon Whorton, John and Tonya Whorton of all of Temple; sister, Carol Kaiser of Centre, Alabama; grandchildren, Tyler, Jessica, Drew, Keith Colton, Zach, Sara, Luke and Faith; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Villa Rica Chapel. Mr. Whorton will lie in state at Springdale Baptist Church from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at Springdale Baptist Church in Rockmart with Pastor Sam Leggett officiating. Interment will follow at Springdale Baptist Church Cemetery.
As we remember Larry, we honor a man whose legacy is defined by his love for family and his devotion to his church. Larry Terrell Whorton will be greatly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched throughout his life.
