Lawrence Chandler Bell

Mr. Lawrence Chandler Bell, 78, of Scoggins Road, Dallas, Georgia passed away after an extended illness Friday, November 11, 2005 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Georgia. . A lifelong resident of Paulding County he was born February 8, 1927 the son of the late David Edgar Bell and the late Ottie Campbell Bell. Mr. Bell graduated from Dallas High School in 1943 and was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II. He married Hattie Lou Swafford on July 3, 1947. He worked as a supervisor/manager in production and quality assurance at Lockheed and retired after 37 years. He served as Chairman of the Paulding County Empty Stocking Fund during the 1960’s. He was director for Paulding County Civil Defense and Westside Rescue Club from 1961 until 1971. He served as Captain in the 1st Brigade, State Defense Force of Georgia. He was featured in “Who’s Who in the South in 1978-1979. Mr. Bell served as chairman for the Paulding County Chapter of the American Red Cross. He was an ordained minister and served as pastor of Wayside Mission. He performed the marriage ceremony of one of his children and two grandchildren. He baptized four of his grandchildren and dedicated one great-grandchild. Mr. Bell was a deacon and member of Beulahland Missionary Baptist Church. He was a member of Beulah Lodge #698 F&AM where he served as Worshipful Master in 1961 and again in 1970 and also served as Chaplain for a number of years. Mr. Bell received his prestigious 50-year apron and pin presented by the Grand Lodge of Georgia in 2004. He also served as the Worshipful Master of the Paulding County Masonic Convention. He was the Past High Priest of the Royal Arch Masonic Chapter. He was a member of the Order of the Easter Star where he served as Worthy Patron. He was a member of the William J. Harden Camp #1397 SCV and the Paulding County Optimist Club. He served on the Paulding County Library Board of Directors from 1991-2000 during which he served as Chairman of the Board in 1997, 1998, and 2000 and served as Budget Chair from 1991-1997. He served on the Library Building Committee for New Georgia and Hiram. He served on the Paulding County Board of Equalization from 1996-2003. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bell was preceded in death by his sister, Sarah Hulsey. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mrs. Hattie Lou Swafford Bell of Dallas; his daughters and sons-in-law, Melanie and Bobby Hunton of Dallas and Angela and Bruce Fennell of Dallas; sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Marcia Bell of Dallas and Larry and Lori Bell of Dallas; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, November 13, 2005 at 2:00 PM from Beulahland Missionary Baptist Church on Pleasant Grove Road, Rockmart, Georgia with Pastor Steve Golden and Pastor Kent Bankston officiating and Chanda Minehart rendering a eulogy. Interment will follow at Beulahland Missionary Baptist Cemetery in Rockmart, Georgia with the following serving as pallbearers: Scott Hunton, Christa Chosewood, Josh Ames, Chad Minehart, Bobby Hunton, Bruce Fennell, Jason Edwards and Dennis Wilson. Members of the Beulah Lodge #698 F&AM will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Masonic Honors will be rendered under the direction of the Beulah Lodge #698 F&AM. The family will be receiving friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica, Saturday, November 12, 2005, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Sunday, November 13, 2005 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
