Leonard Broughton Walton

Mr. Leonard Broughton Walton of 106 Candy Circle, Carrollton, formerly of Paulding County, died Monday, November 8, 2010, at the age of 100. He was born in Paulding County, Georgia, on November 12, 1909 the son of the late Mr. Ira C. Walton and the late Mrs. Elizabeth McBrayer Walton. Mr. Walton taught in public schools for twenty-two years, primarily in Paulding, Douglas, and Carroll Counties, and served as a principal for twelve years at Union and New Georgia Schools. Early in his teaching career, he also coached basketball. He served sixteen years as chairman of the Paulding County Board of Health. He was honored on the occasion of his 100th birthday by Paulding County Board of Commissioners who designated November 12, 2009, as Broughton Walton Day in Paulding County for his long years of services to the county. Mr. Walton was a long time member, Sunday school teacher, and deacon of Draketown Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Walton was preceded in death by brothers, Earnest Walton and Earl Walton; sisters, Iris Walton Dewberry, Myrtle Walton Huey, and Winnie Walton. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Eva Cauthen Walton; son, Ken Walton of Fairfield, Iowa, son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Carol Walton of Carrollton; grandchildren, Mark Walton, Annie Walton-Teter, Lee and Alexandra Walton, Craig Walton, and Beth and David Boyd; five great-grandchildren, and number of nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 3:00 PM at Draketown Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Weaver and Tim Williams officiating. Pallbearers will be Joe Walton, Hansel Walton, Jerry Huey, Ernest Weaver, Howard Cauthen and Dennis McBrayer. Interment will follow at Draketown Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home of Villa Rica Wednesday, November 10, 2010 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
