Mrs. Linda Smith Spriggs, 65, went to be with her Lord on August 22, 2011, at her residence in Douglasville surrounded by family and friends. She was born in Haralson County on June 30, 1946, daughter of John William and Lillian Smith. Linda was valedictorian of her 1964 graduation class of Tallapoosa High School. After receiving her Master of English degree from West Georgia College, Linda taught for thirty years in the Douglas County School System influencing countless young lives. She also served as a bailiff with the Douglas County Court System, was a founding member of the Bosom Buddies Breast Cancer Support Group in Douglas County, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the National Wildlife Turkey Federation (Douglas Spurs Chapter). She was a very active member of the Beulah Baptist Church where she loved her church family. Besides her parents, Linda was preceded in death by brothers Frank and Gordon Smith and brother-in-law Don Spriggs. Linda is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Rick Spriggs of Douglasville; mother-in-law Florence Spriggs of Frankfort, Ohio; sister Jessie Smith; brothers Don Smith (Charlene), and Ronnie Smith (Pattie) of Tallapoosa; sisters-in-law Joanne Kendell, Betty Ackley (Jim), Janet Potter, Ruth Spriggs and Thelma Smith; brothers-in-law Edward Spriggs, Sr. (Vickie) and Art Spriggs; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville Wednesday, August 24, 2011, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, August 25, 2011, at 2:00 from the Beulah Baptist Church in Douglasville with Rev. Danny Waters and Rev. Wayne Bray officiating. She was placed in state at the church at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Beulah Cemetery. Pallbearers are Edward Dale Spriggs, Jr., David W. Spriggs, Nathan O. Spriggs, Joseph McCain, Wesley Pope and Ken Smith. Honorary pallbearers are bailiffs of the Douglas County Court System and members of the Douglas County Sheriff Department.
