Margaret Hinson

October 16, 1931 — October 28, 2015

Margaret “Peggy” Curry Hinson, 84, of Carrollton, died Wednesday, October 28, 2015 after battling Alzheimer’s for several years. She was born to the late Wilfred and Anna Viola Curry, October 16, 1931 in Staten Island, NY and spent part of her childhood in the Dominican Republic before relocating to Miami where she graduated from Miami Edison Senior High School. Peggy remained close to several of her high school classmates and enjoyed many cruises and social events with these loyal friends throughout her life. The nickname “Diamond Lil,” playfully bestowed by her beloved brother Roddy, was a testament to her glamorous dress, love of Frank Sinatra, elegant dinner parties, and her outgoing personality. While she enjoyed playing bingo or a lobster dinner out, she also loved hosting family members for amazing meals of fried chicken and other southern delicacies often followed by a night of playing cards until the last, last, last hand was dealt. Peggy lived and worked in South Florida for most of her life. She worked for many years as a receptionist for Norton Tire Company, before her final job in retail sales at Burlington Coat Factory where she enjoyed helping her customers find just the right new clothes that made them feel great. She was active in the Veterans of Foreign War and the Ladies Auxiliary in Homestead, Florida before relocating to Carrollton in 2006 to be closer to her immediate family. The staff at Carrollton Club, Memory Lane of Bremen, and Carrollton Manor provided compassionate care as Peggy became increasingly quiet in her final years of life. She is survived by her four sons and three daughters-in-law: Duane and Mary Hooper, of Villa Rica; Allen and Diane Hooper, of Big Canoe; Glenn Hooper of Tallahassee, Florida; and Robert and Christine Hinson, of Tamarac, Florida. She is also survived by a beloved sister-in-law, Mary Curry, of Homestead, Florida, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who continue to remember their Aunt Peggy as a colorful character and fun-loving member of their family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas “Nick” Iuliano, two brothers, Gerard “Roddy” Curry and William “Bill” Curry, and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Curry Edgerton and Eddidean Curry. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to St. Margaret’s Community Outreach for the purpose of supporting compassionate care for those in need. A memorial service will be held at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church on Friday, November 6 at 3:00 p.m. with the Very Reverend Hazel Glover presiding. A reception and celebration of life will follow in the parish hall. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.jones-wynn.com.
