Marianne Louise Davis

May 11, 1940 — May 20, 2020

Ms. Marianne Louise Davis, age 80 of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2020. She was born May 11, 1940 in Fulton County, the daughter of the late Mr. Albert H. Davis and the late Mrs. Kate Kerlin Davis. Mrs. Davis and her family lived in the Welcomeall Community and attended Eastern Grammar School. She had three older brothers. Her father moved to the Union City area when she was 11. She then Attended MP Word school until we moved on to Campbell for the eighth grade.. She went to work for CDC in 1959 and worked there as a Lab Technician for thirty-six years. She worked with various viral organisms isolating and growing the viruses for use in Laboratory tests. She also tested human samples for various viral diseases and diagnosing illness. Later in life, she married for six years but had no children. She divorced in 1982 and never chose to remarry. In 1995 she retired and sought a new location away from town. Twenty five years ago she purchased a house in Douglas County. She enjoyed retirement, doing such hobbies as genealogy, photography, and a little bit of gardening. Her church and faith have always been very important to her. She was Baptist growing up but after her divorce she went to a Presbyterian Church and was a long time member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Douglasville, Georgia. Her spiritual life has been rather varied and interesting and has been euphoric and fantastic. It's far beyond anything she could ever tell. After retirement, she had a bout with breast cancer, she survived that and has been clean since. She has a much greater appreciation for life after having gone through that. Her family and friendships were the most important to her. Hikes thru the woods on many trails are more of a memory now than actuality but in former days she hiked most of the Georgia segments of the Appalachian Trail. She had many exciting memories of repelling off of Mount Yonah, going camping both in tents and in my car, going on an Alaska cruise, her school days and youth, riding a school bus, playing by the lake in the afternoon, playing with her dogs and cats and seeing yellow daffodils blooming in the spring. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by brothers, Edsel Davis, Lamar Davis and Jack Davis; two nephews Ms. Davis is survived by ten nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. A Private Graveside service will be held at a later date. Messages of condolences may be sent to the family at www.jones-wynn.com. Jones-Wynn Funeral Home of Douglasville is in charge of the arrangements. 770-942-2311
