Marie Carolyn Brown Hammond, 81, of Carrollton, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. She was born May 29, 1942 in Carrollton, Georgia to the late Knox Webster Brown, Sr. and the late Mary Will Green Brown. She grew up with three older brothers, Cecil, Jack and Knox, Jr. and three sisters, Mary Ann, Jean and the youngest, Jonnie. She married Duane McCrary and had three children, Tonya, Robin and Duane. Marie did her best to care for her children and give them the best life possible. She remarried to Edward “Lucky” Hammond in 1976. They were married until his death in 2006. Through their 30-year marriage, they were able to watch her children grow into adults, marry and start families of their own. Marie loved being a mother, but she really loved being a Grandma to her seven grandchildren. She hosted many sleepovers and gatherings in their home and was known to always have gum in her purse at church.
She completed the LPN Nursing program at Carroll Tech in 1983 and began her career as a nurse. She remained in the medical field until she retired. She loved her family and would often brag about them anytime she could. The only thing she loved more than her family was the Lord. She loved going to church and would share the gospel with anyone who was willing to listen. She was a true light for Christ and wanted everyone to know about Him.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, W. Cecil Brown, Jack Brown, Knox Brown, Jr., Mary Ann Brown and Jean Brown Skinner, her husband, Edward Eugene Hammond, her son, Duane Parker and her grandson, Benjamin Parker.
