Marie White Edwards

Marie White Edwards, 94, died peacefully on Sunday, March 15, 2009 in Carrollton, Georgia. Mrs. Edwards was born on September 10, 1914 in Dekalb County, Georgia to the late Mr. James Walter White and the late Mrs. Ruth Della Peavy White. After graduating from Commercial High School in Atlanta, Marie began working at Kressge Company. She was married for 46 years to the late James “Lefty” Edwards. Mrs. Edwards was an exceptional homemaker, wonderful cook and excellent seamstress. She clothed her daughter, daughter-in-law, granddaughter and great-granddaughters in beautiful clothes she lovingly created. In addition to providing a nurturing home, her church was the focal part of her life. She was active in Oakhurst Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia while raising her children, Stone Mountain Baptist Church from 1965-2000 and then First Baptist Church of Villa Rica, Villa Rica, Georgia, where she was a member of the JOY class. She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and raised her family by Christian teaching and example. Marie was a humble, hardworking and selfless woman who was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmama, great-grandmama and friend who will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased in death by her sister, Louise White Wilson. Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Judy Edwards of Douglasville; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Tom Latimer of Temple; grandchildren, Lori and Dean Johnson of Douglasville, Matt Latimer of Smyrna, and Jeff Edwards of San Diego, California; great grandchildren, Emily and Hannah Johnson of Douglasville; brother, James Walter White, Jr. of Lenoir City, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her best friend of many years, Loy Echols of Dacula, Georgia. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 11:00AM from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica, Georgia with Rev. Talmadge Chandler, Dr. Dan Parker and Rev. Jeff Jones. Musical selections will be rendered by Rev. Ben Pilgreen. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 from 5:00PM until 8:00PM and Wednesday, March 18, 2009 from 9:00AM until the funeral hour.
