Mark Owen Schuppener

Mark Owen Schuppener, 68, of Winston, Georgia passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 11, 2025. He was born on January 2, 1957, in Lancaster, Wisconsin to Dolores "Dee" (Sandleback) Schuppener and the late Neil M. Schuppener. 

Mark was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. A man of unshakeable faith, a skilled and lifelong pilot, and someone whose hands were rarely still - always building, fixing, creating, and giving. Mark had a gift, not just for flying, not just for helping, but for using what God gave him to make life better for the people around him. He lived by the work of his hands and the strength of his heart. Whether it was repairing something no one else could figure out, crafting something with care, or simply lending a helping hand where it was needed - Mark showed up. And he didn't do it for attention. He did it because that's who he was.

He was deeply committed to service at Central Baptist Church, joyfully contributing his time and talents by building wheelchair ramps, constructing blessing boxes for the community, caring for the church grounds as part of the landscape committee and helping Sunday school members and other Church members, as well as neighbors and friends, with any needs that arose in their lives.

Mark spent his life with his eyes towards the heavens - both literally and spiritually. He was a lifelong aviation enthusiast who spent more than 50 years flying – flying wasn’t just a profession for him – it was a calling. His calm demeanor, wise counsel, and strong moral compass earned him deep respect from peers and passengers alike. He mastered the skies, commanding jet aircraft with precision, grace, and humility. He often said that up in the clouds, he felt closer to God, and that the silence and vastness reminded him of the divine.

He loved his family fiercely. His family knew him as a rock - dependable, strong, loving. His friends knew him as someone who could be counted on without question. 

Mark has taken his final flight now - not through the sky, but home to his Creator. And though his hands are at rest, the things he built in this world, in our hearts, and through his final gift of life will endure. Let us honor his legacy with how we live - by showing up for one another, by giving without expecting anything in return, and by loving unconditionally.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Karen Schuppener, the mother of his son and daughter, with whom he shared 25 years of meaningful memories; his father, Neil Schuppener; and his brother-in-law, Fritz Voigts, husband of his sister, Becki.

He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Linda Krontz Schuppener; his mother, Dolores Schuppener; daughter, Michelle (William) Drew-Rodriguez of Winnetka, Illinois; son, Matthew (Hilary) Schuppener of Brookfield, Wisconsin; sister, Becki Schuppener of Platteville, Wisconsin; brother, Bruce (Deb) Schuppener of Platteville, Wisconsin; Linda’s sons, Steve (Sandi) Krontz and Michael (Rhonda) Krontz; and a legacy of grandchildren: Aidan, Harrison, Charles and Julian Rodriguez; Evelyn Drew; Maximus and Alexander Schuppener; Michael, Adelyn, Emery, Joseph, Eden and Teresa Krontz; Morgan (Daniel) Pineda and great-grandson, Diego; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

In keeping with his lifelong commitment to helping others, Mark gave the gift of life through organ donation, blessing several families with hope in their darkest hour.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Central Baptist Church, Douglasville, Georgia on Saturday, September 6, 2025 - visitation from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with the service beginning at 3:00 p.m. A graveside burial will take place in Boscobel, Wisconsin at a later date to be announced.
