Martha Garner

December 16, 1933 — October 15, 2012

Mrs. Martha Sticher Garner, age 78, of Valley, Alabama, formerly of Douglasville, Georgia, passed away Monday, October 15, 2012 at her home. A native of Douglas County, Georgia, she was born December 16, 1933 the daughter of the late Mr. James P. Sticher and the late Mrs. Edna Sarah Hollis Sticher. She retired in 1991 from Atlanta Gas & Light Company following 42½ years of dedicated service as a customer service clerk. She was a faithful member of Union Grove Christian Church for many years. Due to her loving and caring nature, many children at church wanted to greet her and be around her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Margie Davis and Ruby Sheppard; and brother-in-law, John Wayne Moody. She is survived by her loving husband, Morris H. Garner of Valley, AL; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Judy Moody of Douglasville and Janice and Billy Thompson of Douglasville; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel, Wednesday, October 17, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 2:00 PM from Union Grove Christian Church with Minister Mike Mallory officiating. Interment will follow at Union Grove Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Matt Swales, Jeremy Moody, Jamie Thompson, Kevin Thompson, Randy Sheppard, and Andy Sheppard.
