Martha Powell Ponder

Ms. Martha Powell Ponder, age 70, of Covington, Georgia passed away June 23, 2009 at the Rockdale Medical Center. She was born August 30, 1938, in Douglas County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Mr. William Powell and the late Mrs. Frances A. Yates Holloman. Ms. Ponder was retired from the Bellsouth Yellow Pages and was a member of the Gaither’s United Methodist Church in Covington, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her mother and step-father, Mrs. Frances A. Yates Holloman and Mr. Robert Holloman , her son, Mr. Michael Craig Ponder and her father, Mr. William Powell. She is survived by her fiancé, Mr. Herman Carroll to whom she was to be married this month; her sons and daughters-in-law Brett Kevin and Patricia A. Ponder of Conyers, and Derek William and Wendy R. Ponder of Toledo, Ohio; her brothers and sisters-in-law Don and Mary Powell and Johnny Powell, all of Texas; her granddaughter Brettany Lynn Ponder and her grandsons Aaron Marshall Ponder and Jason Ponder; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 26, 2009 at 11:30AM from the Gaither’s United Methodist Church in Covington, Georgia with Pastor Mickey Moss officiating. Derrick Ponder will render the eulogy. Ms. Ponder will lie in state from 10:30 until the funeral hour. Entombment will follow at Meadowbrook Memory Gardens Chapel Mausoleum in Villa Rica. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 25, 2009 from 5:00PM to 9:00 PM at the Villa Rica Chapel of the Jones-Wynn Funeral Home.
