Mary Jane Granstra

Mary Jean Granstra, 88, of Villa Rica, GA passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026.

Mary was born on July 11, 1937 to Melvin and Jesse Lowry of Harbor Springs, MI. She graduated from Habor Springs High School. On November 27, 1959 she married Walter Granstra in Pensacola, FL; beginning her adventurous life as a military wife. In the 1960's she had three daughters; Shawn, Beth, and Heidi. She was a devoted wife and mother and served as president of the Coast Guard Officer's Wives Club. The family lived in many places around the country, including the West Coast, Alaska, the East Coast, the Great Lakes, and Canada.

In 1980, they moved to Roswell, GA where she used her cooking talents to Anna Leis' Cafe both in the kitchen and at catered events. In 1996, Walt and Mary retired to a lake home in Villa Rica, GA. She became an avid water aerobics leader, a volunteer at Tanner Hospital, and a member of Carrollton Presbyterian Church where she cooked the monthly fellowship meal for the congregation. She enjoyed lake time with her grandchildren and neighbors, and travelled often with Walt and her daughters. Harbor Springs was her favorite place and she returned there every year to visit family and friends and to go skiing, something she did proudly later in life.

Mary is survived by her husband Walter, daughters Shawn Gay, Beth Helmick and Heidi Wells; 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Melvin and Jesse Lowry, sister Peggy Luettjohann and grandson Benjamin Wells.
