Mrs. Helen Upchurch Davis of Douglasville passed away on March 12, 2009 at the age of 95. The funeral will be on Sunday, March 15 at the First United Methodist Church of Douglasville at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be on Monday, March 16 at 1:00 p.m. at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14 at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Douglas Chapel in Douglasville. Mrs. Davis was born May 3, 1913 in Fairburn, Georgia, daughter of Joe Cephas and Nancy Delura Upchurch. She graduated from Commercial High School in Atlanta. She was a bookkeeper for Aldredge Enterprises of Sandy Springs for 38 years. She was employed there well into her eighties. Mrs. Davis was a long time member of the Douglasville First United Methodist Church where she was active as long as her health permitted. She was a member of the Lively Sunday School Class, the Shirley Anderson Circle and the OAKS Group. Mrs. Davis, or Baba, as her beloved grandson, Will, has called her since he was a toddler, enjoyed family gatherings, her church and watching the Braves on TV. Baba, who lived with her daughter and family, lovingly cared for Will his entire life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Dupont Davis, her sisters, Lillian Hassler, Sally Aldredge and Lucille Lasseter. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Kip and Nancy Berry, grandson, Will Berry, nephews, H. C. âBuddyâ Aldredge and Ben Upchurch, nieces, Sara Cleveland and Nan Johnson.
