Mrs. Mary Barfield Kilgore, age 94, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2012. A native of Douglas County, Georgia, she was born July 16, 1918 the daughter of the late Calvin Alexander Barfield, Sr. and the late Mrs. Myrtie Strawn Barfield. She was a member of the first graduating class of Douglas County High School (1937). She attended Georgia State Evening College which is the forerunner of Georgia State University. During World War II, she worked at Bell Aircraft. She went on to retire as an administrative assistant from Georgia Federal Bank. She was a member of County Line Baptist Church in Lithia Springs where she served as church pianist, prepared the church bulletin, taught Sunday School classes from kindergarten through young Adult, and served as director of the Senior Adult Ministry (the Rah Rahâs). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas H. Kilgore; sister, Dorothy Barfield Meggs and brothers, Claude S. Barfield, Calvin A. Barfield, Jr and Dennis Eugene Barfield. She is survived by one son, William D. Kilgore of Douglasville; sister, Amy Barfield Fuquea of Douglasville; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel Thursday, October 4, 2012 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Mrs. Kilgore will lie in state at County Line Baptist Church on Friday, October 5, 2012 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, October 5, 2012 at 11:00 AM at County Line Baptist Church in Lithia Springs with Pastor David McLendon and Pastor Jerry Adair officiating. Interment will follow at County Line Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to County Line Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
