Douglasville, Georgia

Mattie Henslee, 81, of Douglasville, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 4, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 5, 1944, in Yorkville, Georgia to the late Myrtle Watts Hulsey and Grover Hulsey. She embraced life with a unique spunk and sass that endeared her to all who knew her.

Throughout her life, Mattie found joy and fulfillment in a variety of things that reflected her loving and spirited character. She was a passionate gardener, nurturing both plants and those around her. Her talent for interior decorating brought warmth and beauty into many homes, a testament to her creative eye and thoughtful nature. Deeply spiritual, Mattie cherished her time reading the Bible, and she was an active participant in church activities, where she found community and purpose.

Mattie’s personality shone brightly in every role she had. She was more than just a family member; she was a source of love, encouragement, and strength—qualities that left a mark on her family and friends. Known affectionately as Nannie and Mama Mattie, she embodied the heart of her family, offering love, support and guidance.

Her passing leaves a great void for those who cherished her presence. Yet, the memories of her spunky spirit, loving nature, and unyielding faith will continue to inspire and comfort all who were fortunate enough to know her.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Mr. Kenny Melvin Henslee; and siblings, Jean Davidson, Dean Hulsey, Bill Hulsey, Virginia Adams, Bessie Henslee, Mary Turner, Evelyn Kelley and Hazel Hicks.
