Michael Ralph Currence, 74, of Temple, passed away on February 18, 2026. He was born on June 28, 1951, the son of the late Ralph Labern Currence and Evanotis Jones Currence.
Michael served with pride and dedication in law enforcement. He had a remarkable career with the Atlanta Police Department that spanned thirty years. Michael began his career as a patrol officer and moved into narcotics, then he transitioned over to Metro Drug and Vice. He spent the last ten years as an investigator for both the robbery and burglary units. Following his remarkable time with the Atlanta Police Department, Michael continued to serve the public as a member of the Douglas County Sheriff's Department for thirteen years.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Michael was deeply committed to his faith and community. He was a deacon at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Hiram for at least twenty years, where he made a lasting impact. His dedication to the church included many years teaching Sunday School, nurturing the spiritual growth of countless individuals and he served as the Awana commander.
Michael's involvement in his children’s lives was equally profound; he spent numerous years coaching their sports teams, instilling values of teamwork, dedication, and resilience.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Alexandra Michelle Currence; sisters, Gail Bennett and Emma Ellen Ames.
He is survived by his wife, Rosteen “Rusty” Currence; sons, Kevin Currence (Victoria Anderson) of Temple, Joshua Verner of Douglasville; daughters, Samantha Currence (Nathan McGuire) of Douglasville, Jennifer Catlin (Chuck) of Carrollton, and Julie Goff of Douglasville; grandchildren, Bayleigh Verner, Brody Fancher, Avery Verner, Katie Catlin, Emma Blasczyk (Luke), Jacob Goff, and Carter Goff; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Villa Rica Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Hiram. A private family interment will follow after the service.
Michael’s legacy of service, faith, and commitment to his family and community will be cherished and remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
