Mr. Roy Willard Smallwood

Mr. Roy Willard Smallwood, 83, of Villa Rica, Georgia passed away February 23, 2008 at his residence. He was born January 30, 1925 in Douglasville, Georgia the son of the late Mr. James Lodrick Smallwood and the late Mrs. Polly Ann Ophelia Hunter. He married Ruby Lambert February 21, 1948 in Carroll County. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he served in the Battle of Normandy and received the Purple Heart. Mr. Smallwood retired as a supervisor for Sterling Drug Company. He was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Villa Rica where he was a deacon, a member of the Berean Sunday School Class, and served as a Gold Choir member, an usher, and Sunday School Treasurer. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed playing the piano. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson, Scotty Newman; son-in-law, Brad Newman; brothers, Jimmy Smallwood and Vesta Smallwood and sisters, Addie Bell Taylor and Edna Woods. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mrs. Ruby Lambert Smallwood of Villa Rica; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and William Cole of Villa Rica; sons and daughter-in-law, Garry and Vicki Smallwood of Villa Rica, Wendell Roy Smallwood of Villa Rica, and Larry Collins of Villa Rica; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bernice and Bill Snellenberger of New Richmond, IN and Madeline and Merritt Williams of Marietta; sister-in-law, Marie Terrell Smallwood; grandchildren, Chad and Ginger Smallwood of Temple, Shelly Newman Tant and Jeff Tant of Cartersville, Josh and Jana Smallwood of Villa Rica, Craig Smallwood of Villa Rica, and Todd Smallwood of Villa Rica; 13 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, February 25, 2008 at 2:00 PM from the First Baptist Church of Villa Rica with Rev. Marshall Ray and Dr. J.B. Marlow officiating. Musical selections will be rendered by Rev. Ben Pilgreen. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. The following will serve as pallbearers: Chad Smallwood, Todd Smallwood, Craig Smallwood, Josh Smallwood, Marcus Newman, Jeff Tant, Mason Newman, and Andrew Newman. Members of the Berean Sunday School Class will served as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home of Villa Rica, Sunday, February 24, 2008 from 4:30 PM until 9:00 PM.
