Mr. Seldon Laten Green, age 81, of Lithia Springs, Georgia passed away Thursday, March 15, 2007 at Wellstar Douglas Hospital. He was born November 17, 1925 in Clay County, Alabama the son of the late Mr. Jarruth Green and the late Mrs. Opal Stansell Green. He married Agnes Price 60 years ago on March 15, 1947. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he served on the U.S.S. Zaniah in the Pacific Theater and during the Battle of Okinawa. He was a devoted resident of Lithia Springs since 1955 and was a Ruritan member in the community for over 40 years having served in the offices of President, Secretary, Treasurer and Zone Governor. The club was instrumental in starting the Lithia Springs Post Office, Fire Department, Library and providing street signs for the Lithia Springs area. Mr. Green was a member of the Lithia Springs First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for 40 years and as a Sunday School Teacher. He was a member of the Anglers Sunday School Class. He earned several degrees from the Southern Baptist Education Extension. Mr. Green worked for Equifax Credit as a binderyman. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his grandson, Bobby Robinson. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mrs. Agnes Price Green of Lithia Springs; one daughter and son-in-law, Retta and Carl Manns of Rensselaer, IN; one son and daughter in law, Gary and Brenda Green of Sandy Springs; one sister, Virginia Hardy of Douglasville; two brothers and sisters in law, Terry and Alice McKenney of Monticello, FL and Glenn and Trina McKenney of Lithia Springs; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, March 17, 2007 at 11:00 AM from the First Baptist Church of Lithia Springs with Rev. Terry Barnes, Dr. Marion Beaver, Dr. Robert Whitmire officiating. Serving as Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of the First Baptist Church of Lithia Springs and members of the Anglers Sunday School Class. Mr. Green will lie in state and the family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church of Lithia Springs on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour. Interment and graveside services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 3:00 PM EST at Mellow Valley Cemetery in Clay, AL with Rev. Marion Beaver and Rev. Zenus Windsor officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions in Memory of Mr. Green may be made to the Lithia Springs First Baptist Church, 3566 Bankhead Highway, Lithia Springs, Georgia 30122.
