Mr. Shelby Dean Runnels, age 76, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at his residence after an extended illness. He was born February 11, 1934, in Perry, Oklahoma; the son of the late Mr. Arthur Elmore âAEâ Runnels and the late Mrs. Cleopal Katherine Evans Runnels. He served in the U.S. Marine Reserves and was a past member of the F&AM Masonic Lodge #299 in Cairo, Georgia. He worked as a computer programmer and was of the Baptist Faith. He was an avid collector of Lionel trains, Strombecker wood trains, the Hess truck collections, stamps, and coins. He enjoyed building models and painting. He was an avid classical music fan who especially loved The Mantovani Italian composer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his half brother, Arthur âBoBoâ Runnels. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Verneal âNealâ Pumphrey Runnels; his daughters and son-in-law, Phyllis Runnels Greene of Douglasville, Georgia and Stephanie Dianne and Robert Outlaw of Douglasville, Georgia; son, Wendell Kenneth Runnels of Avondale Estates, Georgia, sisters and brothers-in-law, Nita Swindell of Apopka, Florida, Jeri and Charles Lawrence of Norman, Oklahoma, Sue and Joe Crumpton of Leesburg, Florida, and Becky and John Anderson of Lakeland, Florida; brothers and sister-in-law, Hampton E. âSamâ and Peggy Runnels of Valvio, Florida, and Jim Runnels of Leesburg, Florida; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-granddaughters; many nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, October 11, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Douglas Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with Pastor Dallas Ellis officiating. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel, Sunday, October 10, 2010, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
