Mrs. Sarah Amy Edmondson Smith, age 88, of South Street, Carrollton, Georgia and formerlly of Villa Rica, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2006 at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, Georgia. She was born on August 28, 1917 in Temple, Georgia, the daughter of the late Grover C. and Ida Stovall Edmondson. She was one of six children living on a farm, which produced their meat, vegetables, fruit and poultry. She attended school at Mt. Carmel School where she was first honor student of her class. On February 27, 1937, she married Herman Spruell Smith, also of Carroll County. They lived in Birmingham, Alabama, during World War II with their two children, June Smith Burson and Kenneth Smith. Returning to Villa Rica, Georgia, in 1946, Herman owned and operated the Texaco Service Station there for 40 years. Amy worked for many years at Glamour Girl, a uniform manufacturing business in Villa Rica, Georgia. Amy was a member of the Villa Rica First United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Her husband of over 60 years, Herman Smith died in April of 1997 after a lengthy illness. Amy was very proud of her two granddaughters, Amanda Smith Vaughn and Susan Smith. She enjoyed reading, gardening, yard work, houseplants, flower arranging and generally being of help to those around her. She moved to the Stewart House in February of 2002 and enjoyed her home there. Before coming to the Stewart House, she would walk a mile a day at the Villa Rica Senior Citizens Center, which contributed to her good health. She is preceded in death by her husband, Herman Spruell Smith; and her parents Grover C. Edmondson and Ida Stovall Edmondson. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, June and Roy Burson of Lilburn, Georgia; and one son, Kenneth Smith of Chickamauga, Georgia; two sisters and brother-in-law, Era and G.D. Holland of Rome, Georgia; and Edna West of Temple, Georgia; two grand-daughters, Amanda Smith Vaughn and Susan Smith: several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Villa Rica, Georgia with Rev. James Smith officiating. Entombment will follow in the Hillcrest Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica, on Monday, July 10,2006 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 PM.
