Dorothy Virginia Dodd, born in Starsville, Georgia passed away Friday, July 21, 2006 following complications from heart surgery on May 19, 2006. Preceded in death by her husband, L.N. Dodd, daughter, Cindy and son, Michael. Survived by sons, Lawrence (Kathy) Dodd, Richard (Kristine) Dodd and daughter, Virginia (Chris) Watts; grandchildren, Larry Jr., Katti (Tony), Summer, Krista, Alexandria, Brent and Brittany; step-grandchildren, Tim (Suzie), Beth, Eddie, Brooke, Jamie, Deanna, Jimmy and Genova; great-grandchild, Taegan; step great-grandchildren, Tyler and Olivia; She was âGrandma Doddâ to all that knew her. Dorothy grew up in New York City, where she spent some of her teenage years singing on a local New York radio station. During her youth, she enjoyed church activities and visits with her family in Covington, Georgia. She married and raised her four children in Miami, Florida. She worked as a waitress at Palm Springs Lanes and Miami Lakes Country Club until she retired in 1982 and moved to Douglasville, Georgia to live with daughter, Ginny, son-in-law, Chris and her four granddaughters. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, puzzles, reading, crocheting, cooking, playing cards, watching âWheel of Fortuneâ, telling stories of her childhood, or just sitting on the back porch visiting with family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling with her children and grandchildren to destinations including Mexico, Alaska, New York City, Hawaii, and places in between. She especially enjoyed family get-togethers, where Larry and Rick would play music and sing âBeatlesâ songs. Dorothy was buried at Vista Memorial Gardens, 14200 NW 57th Avenue, Miami, FL. A service was held in the Chapel at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 with Reverend Sammy Waller presiding. A memorial service will be held at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, 2189 Midway Road in Douglasville, Georgia on Sunday, July 30, 2006 at 4:00 PM.
