Mrs. Lois Louise Chastain

Mrs. Lois Louise Chastain, age 92, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Sunday, January 6, 2008 at Wellstar Douglas Hospital. She was born June 7, 1915 in Atlanta, Georgia the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ribelin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Chastain and son, Donald Michael Chastain. After losing her husband she had no means of support. She started filling in at local schools as a supply teacher. Apparently she was well received because she was called every day. After being established as a regular, she started night school working toward her teaching degree. This included several nights a week and summer. She received her degree from Oglethorpe. Her determination paid off. She moved to Special Education and worked with challenged students. She loved her work and we all loved her. After her many years of dedicated service as a teacher she retired from the City of Atlanta. She was a member of Southwest Christian Church in East Point. She served as a pianist at Grove Park and Southwest Christian Church. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Cecil P. Chastain, Jr. and Karen Chastain of Tallapoosa , Walter Joseph Chastain and Nancy Carol Chastain of Douglasville, and John Baxter Chastain and Shirley Chastain of Douglasville; 8 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her special friend that sat with her, Martha Bowman. A Memorial service will be conducted Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 1:00 PM from Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Watters officiating. Inurnment will be at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel, Friday, January 11, 2008 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
