Mrs. Lottie O’Rear Banks, 91, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Sunday, June 25, 2006 at Douglasville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born March 19, 1915 in Atlanta, Georgia the daughter of the late Mr. Howard Paul O’Rear, Sr. and the late Mrs. Bessie Harding O’Rear. She was a 1932 graduate of Rome High School. During her young adult life she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Douglasville where she taught the 11-year old girls Sunday School Class for many years. She was a charter member of Heritage Baptist Church. She took pride in being a homemaker and she was a great cook, wonderful seamstress and an avid bridge player. In 1950 she was appointed to the first Library Board of Douglas County. In 1954 she was selected as one of the first five women picked to serve on a Grand Jury in Douglas County. She served on the Douglas Hospital Auxiliary for many years where she was honored with over 10,000 hours as a volunteer. She enjoyed serving as a poll worker for the Douglas County and Douglasville City Elections over the years. She gave 100% of her time to her family and community. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Rupert Jack Banks; brothers, Howard Paul O’Rear, Jr. and W.D. O’Rear. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Patsy Banks of Douglasville; 2 grandchildren, John Banks and Charlie Banks both of Douglasville; sister-in-law, Sylvia P. O’Rear of Atlanta; nieces, Edith Tremble of Oakton, VA, Alene O’Rear and Cathy O’Rear both of San Diego, CA; nephews, Mike and Cindy Courtmarche of Houston, TX and Chip O’Rear of Duluth, GA. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 3:00 PM from Heritage Baptist Church with Dr. Milton Dwelle and Rev. Cecil Clegg officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Jimmy Haddle, Charles Camp, Terry Baggett, Bob James, John Thomas and Dennis Connally. Interment will follow at Douglasville City Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Wellstar Douglas Hospital Auxiliary. The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Those desiring to do so may make contributions to the Wellstar Douglas Hospital Auxiliary, 8954 Hospital Drive, Douglasville, Georgia 30134 in memory of Mrs. Lottie O’Rear Banks.
