Mrs. Lucille Whitican went to live with her Lord and Savior on April 18, 2010, after a 10 year battle with cancers. She was born on December 13, 1920 in Linden, Missouri to the late James and Stella Scott. She married the âLove of her Lifeâ, John Whitican on March 17, 1946. Their romance was a World War II âLove Letterâ relationship resulting in a marriage of 64 years. Mrs. Whitican graduated as a Registered Nurse from Springfield Baptist Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. She served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II. She was stationed at Fort Collins, Colorado and Fort Warren in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She nursed at a POW Camp in Trinidad, Colorado. She was honorably discharged from Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Mrs. Whitican retired from Port Huron Hospital in Port Huron, Michigan, where she lovingly took care of newborn babies. She enjoyed reading and traveling the United State with her husband in their Motor Home, residing in Homestead, Florida during the winter. She was a member of Lakeshore Presbyterian Church in Port Huron, Michigan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two infant sons, Robert and Richard Whitican. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She is survived by her loving husband, John; three daughters who reside in Georgia, Nancy and Chuck Dalton of Douglasville, Jean and Ed Baker of Macon, and Sue Simmons of Jonesboro. She is survived by eight grandchildren, Ed Jr., Jennifer, Sarah, Gina, Jonathan, Adam, Laura, and Lucas: great-granddaughters, Caroline and Stella Marie; and brothers, Eugene and Jim (Delores) Scott of Missouri; She is also survived by several in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. The family is receiving friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home, Douglas Chapel, Tuesday, April 20, 2010 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 6:00 PM at the Douglas Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville, Georgia.
