Myrtis Sue Whatley

Mrs. Myrtis Sue Whatley, age, 78, of Douglasville, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2023. She was born May 24, 1945 in Atlanta, GA to the late Mr. John Henry Fleming and the late Mrs. Agnes Irene Fleming. Sue was an extraordinary soul who possessed a multitude of interests and talents. She had a passion for baking, her skills extended beyond the kitchen as she expressed her creativity through building beautiful birdhouses. Sue dedicated over three decades of her life to the Special Olympics. Her commitment to this cause showcased both her kind heart and immense dedication to improving the lives of others. She poured her energy into supporting individuals with special needs, embodying empathy and compassion in every interaction. Her quick wit and clever sense of humor brought laughter to those around her. With a pen in hand, she would effortlessly weave together words to create poems that touched the hearts of many.  Above all else, Sue was deeply rooted in her family values. She cherished moments spent surrounded by loved ones and found immense joy in creating lasting bonds within her family circle. 

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Jimmy Donald Whatley; son, Jonathon Donald Whatley; and ten siblings.

She is survived by her daughters, Celia Darlene (John) Waldron, Jennifer (Joe) Whatley Thompson; sister, Celia (Thomas) Sims; grandchildren, Bryant Waldron, Mackenzie Waldron, Jacob Thompson, Mallory Thompson; many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville on Thursday, December 14, 2023 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM. The memorial service will follow at 12:00 PM with Pastor Brett Ellington officiating. 

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Douglas County Special Olympics (envelopes will be provided at the service).
