Myrtle Lee Quick BaileyFebruary 22, 1930 – May 1, 2013There was a time to be born, as God saw fit 83 years ago to give Myrtle Lee Quick Bailey the breath of life on February 22, 1930. She became a living soul in Gibson, North Carolina as the only child of her late parents, Hercules and Lorina Quick.There was a time to love on December 26, 1951 when she married the late Augusta Bailey. There was a time to plant as they started their family and a time to pull up plants as they nurtured and developed them into the people God wanted them to be. As their three children grew up, they experienced times to laugh, times to cry, times to be sad, times to dance, times to be silent and times to speak. They experienced a tragedy in 1988 that no parent wants to face in the death of their oldest son, Augusta Bailey, Jr. Even in the midst of the heartbreak of losing a child, they still perservered as a family because of the prayers of this one praying soldier.Mrs. Bailey spent over 40 years in the school system after she graduated from Fayetteville State University and Jacksonville State University where she received a Masters in Education. She spent time as a teacher at Fort McClellan Elementary School in Jacksonville, AL and Randolph Park Elementary School in Anniston, AL. She touched the lives of hundreds of students as she was dedicated to their education, their lives and most of all their spirits! She eventually retired from the school system, but continued to support them through volunteering. While in Jacksonville, she was a committed member of St. Paul CME Church where she was greatly respected.There was a time to tear apart in 2001 as Mr. and Mrs. Bailey separated themselves from the life they had lived in Jacksonville and relocated to Villa Rica, GA. There was a time to sew together as they desired to be closer to their children and grandchildren. While in Villa Rica, Mrs. Bailey continued to volunteer at a school in Carrollton, GA until she decided that she had fulfilled her commitment to education enough to retire for good. She also became a member of the Assembly of the Saints Deliverance Church in Villa Rica.Mrs. Bailey lived in Villa Rica until Mr. Bailey succumbed to a short illness in 2008. She then decided to move in with her daughter’s family in Smyrna, GA. She was able to see the fruits of her labor in her sons and daughter as she saw their fruit grow on a consistent basis. Not many grandparents have this opportunity, but Mrs. Bailey was truly blessed.There is a time to be sad because Mrs. Bailey asked to leave this earth and go home with her Lord and Saviour on May 1, 2013 during a brief stay at the Tranquility Hospice in Austell, GA. Even though there is a sadness that is felt, the joy is in knowing that Mrs. Bailey was a servant of Lord throughout her entire life; her spirit is dancing. She touched many lives through her daily words, her walk with God and her wisdom of the scriptures. There was not a day that went by where she did not give praise to God through prayer; she was the epitome of what the power of a praying woman can do. All of those who had ever met her reaped the benefit because they were added to her prayer list.There is a time to dance because Mrs. Bailey is where she had always wanted to be; this is our time to smile. As she is praising the Lord face to face, she is survived by a son, Dr. Erroll Bailey (Alise) of Atlanta, GA and a daughter, Dr. Kathy Bailey-Bruster (Sherman) of Smyrna, GA; five granchildren, Sean Bailey, Hamilton Bailey, Alexis Bailey, Kayla Bruster, and Baleigh Bruster; two great-granchildren, Abijah Bailey and Anihalla Bailey; a first cousin, Mr. Bobby Martin of Virginia and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
