In Loving Memory of Mrs. Nancy L. Murphey

Mrs. Nancy L. Murphey, a beloved resident of Douglasville, Georgia, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2026. Born on July 21, 1941, in Adamsville, Fulton County, Georgia, she was the cherished daughter of the late J.W. Whitfield and the late Mrs. Myrtice Bailey, and stepfather of C.W. Bailey.

Her Life and Interests

Nancy was known for her passion for gardening, where her expertise with plants earned her the reputation of having a "green thumb." She also enjoyed reading, playing games and shopping, hobbies that brought her much joy throughout her life.

Family

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Eugene Murphey, and her sister, June Catlin. She is survived by her loving children and their spouses: Wesley Eugene and Teresa Murphey of Douglasville, GA; Jeffrey Scott Murphey Sr. and his wife, Deborah, of Bowdon, GA; and Lisa Strickland-Sosebee and her husband, Scott, of Ormond Beach, FL.

She is also survived by her two sisters, Idell Arnold of Mableton, GA, and Katie Odom of Powder Springs, GA; her brother, Michael Bailey of Whitesburg, GA; as well as five grandchildren and their spouses: Amber and Stan Reaves of Lake Park GA, Scott and Diane Murphey of Cordova, AL, Dylan Strickland of Douglasville GA, Hannah Strickland of Douglasville, GA and Lee Sosebee of Daytona, FL. Nancy’s legacy continues through her seven great-grandchildren: Stanley Reaves IV, Ady Reaves, Samson Reaves, Reice Murphey, Barrett Murphey, Piper Jane Murphey, and Julian Lynn. She is also remembered fondly by several nieces and nephews.

Service Arrangements

Graveside services will be conducted at Sunrise Gardens of Memories, on Thursday, January 29, 2026 at 11:00 AM.
