Nina Carol Baranski

Nina Carol Baranski, 84, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2025. She was born on December 28, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of the late the Rev. Dr. Oliver Grotefend and the late Effie Brackman.

Nina had a career in journalism and she retired as managing editor of five Scripps community newspapers, she broke the Presidential Home building scandal in Port St. Lucie, which led to the rewriting of the city model home ordinance. She joined the city of Port St. Lucie in 1989 as it’s Community Relations Director. She proudly pioneered government access television to the area via PSL TV-20. Later she launched the Port St. Lucie Film Commission.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Grotefend and David Grotefend.

She is survived by her husband, William Baranski; daughters, Catherine Thompson, Amy Anderson (Daniel) both of Carrollton and Elizabeth Uzdavines of Villa Rica; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 31, 2025 from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Villa Rica. A memorial service will follow in the Villa Rica Chapel at 3:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Tanner Hospice.
