Mrs. Patricia Lunette Whalen Akers, age 71, of Temple, Georgia passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at the Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, Georgia. She was born in Red Bank, New Jersey, the daughter of the late Mr. Claude Whalen and the late Mrs. Bessie Lunette Fussell Whalen. Mrs. Akers was a retired LPN and retired juvenile officer. She was a former First Lady of Bremen’s Lion’s Club and an active member of the Liberty Christian Church in Temple, as a choir member and the former treasurer for the Lady’s Circle. Mrs. Akers was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Fao Nathaniel Akers; her daughters, Patricia Hyslop and Janice Venable; and her brother, Claude M. Whalen. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Terri and Jerry Miller of Temple, Cindy and James Cooper of Bowdon, Pamela Thurber and Terrell Brown of Temple, Christa Bailey and Tim Mapp of Milledgeville and Becky Akers of Tallapoosa; her son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Darr Akers of Frankfurt, Illinois; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, August 23, 2009 at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica with Ministers Bill Gray and Tom Howard officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Christus at Meadowbrook Memory Gardens on Hickory Level Road in Villa Rica, Georgia. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 22, 2009 from 3:00PM until 9:00PM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.jones-wynn.com.
