Pedro Luis Lopez, age 88, formerly of Miami, Florida, passed away March 6, 2017, following an extended illness.He was born on December 6, 1928, in Pinar del Rio, Cuba, son of the late Pedro Regalado Lopez and the late Rosa Moreno Lopez. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Emilia Musa Lopez, his sister Aida Lopez del Valle, his grandson, Brian Alan Daniell and his longtime companion, Viela Segovia.Pedro is survived by his three children, Emilia Daniell (Scott) of Douglasville, Elena Ris (Steve Stancel) of Alpharetta, and Dr. Berto Lopez of West Palm Beach, Florida; granddaughters Lisa Reaves (Matt), and Jackie Azis; great-grandchildren Nathan and Layla Reaves; brothers Juan Andres Lopez (Conchita), Juan Lopez Fuente (Sedra); god-daughters Aidy Hart and Conchie Marks (Stephen); numerous nieces and nephews. He graduated from the University of Havana as a Civil Engineer then emigrated to the United States in 1962, becoming a U.S. citizen in 1967. He had a long and distinguished career working in Cuba, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Brazil, Indiana, and Georgia. In his later years, he established a construction company in Decatur, Georgia and Miami, Florida. He learned to speak French, Portuguese and English in addition to his native Spanish. Pedro leaves a legacy of being extraordinarily generous to family and friends and expecting nothing in return.Per his wishes, he was cremated and a memorial mass will be held at St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Catholic Church in Douglasville at 11am on March 11, 2017. There will be a reception following the service where family will receive friends at the church Parish Hall.
