Ralph Edward Hartsfield

Mr. Ralph Edward Hartsfield, age 83, of Carrollton, Georgia passed away September 15, 2009 at the Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton. He was born October 23, 1925 in Marietta, Georgia to the late Mr. Jesse Francis Hartsfield and the late Mrs. Mattie Rollins Hartsfield. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army. He retired in 1981 from the federal government where he worked as a supervisor in telecommunications and then transferred to the veterans administration department where he processed VA loans. Mr. Hartsfield, a dedicated Christian, was a long time member, deacon and treasurer of the Community Grove Baptist Church in Douglas County; also a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Lithia Springs and the Joyful Co-Ed Sunday School Class and later a member of the First Baptist Church of Villa Rica and the Friendship Sunday School Class as well as a supporter of many Christian based ministries. He served as president of the Douglas County Retardation Association. Mr. Hartsfield was an honorary Douglas County Deputy Sheriff. Mr. Hartsfield affectionately known to many as “Pa-Pop” was very devoted to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty Compton Hartsfield of Carrollton; daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Joel Taff of Douglasville; two sons and daughter-in-law Edward “Eddie” Hartsfield and Terry and Sherry Hartsfield of Carrollton; six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, September 18, 2009 at 2:00 PM from the First Baptist Church of Villa Rica with Rev. Jeff Jones, Rev. Hugh McCoy, Rev. Neal Beard and Rev. Clinton Reed officiating. Interment will follow in the Mozley Memorial Gardens in Lithia Springs. The family will receive friends Thursday, September 17, 2009 from 3:00 PM to 8:00PM at the Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica.
