Regina Darnell Robinson Austin, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2024, in Douglasville, GA, at the age of 68. Born on March 22, 1956, in Erie, PA, to the late Mr. Kennis Robinson and Mrs. Anne K. Robinson, Regina lived a life full of love, compassion, and purpose.
A dedicated nurse and case manager, Regina devoted over 46 years of her life to serving others, receiving the State of Georgia’s Faithful Service Award in recognition of her commitment. She commuted 100 miles to work and still managed to make dinner for the family. Despite the times when she grew up, she was resilient and earned her associates degree from Jones Junior College and later graduated from Jackson State University with a Bachelor’s in Nursing. Her sharp wit, lively personality, and warm, assertive nature left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of knowing her. A natural leader, she guided her family and inspired many in her career with her vibrant energy and passion for helping others.
Regina embraced life with enthusiasm and had a multitude of passions. She was a social at heart who loved a good party, especially when filled with soul music, live performances, and dancing. Thanksgiving held a special place in her heart; she and her sister Kimberly hosted yearly celebrations with beloved singing and dancing to R&B and soul classics in the basement. She enjoyed traveling, with Hawaii as a favorite destination, and could often be found savoring the blue waters, seafood, and attending lively luaus. Recently, she also had the chance to travel to Disney with one of her great-grandchildren and had a great time. Her favorite foods included fish and collard greens, and she had a particular fondness for Lifetime movies. She would take the greatest pride in her retirement and the freedom it gave her to decide how to spend her time.
Her home was a sanctuary of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Regina’s most fulfilling role was as a mother and grandmother, especially proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She shared a profound bond with her husband of 48 years, David Austin. Together, they traveled the world, creating memories in every corner they visited. Known for kicking off the dance floor at every celebration, their joyful energy and love for each other was unmistakable. Their bond was a testament to a life shared in laughter, adventure, and unwavering support. Regina was the supreme boy mom and loved all three of her boys, she felt a unique connection with her youngest son, Parris, who often had more time to spend with her. Regina’s influence extended to her granddaughter Mackenzie, whom she mentored with wisdom and encouragement as Mackenzie embraced the responsibilities of motherhood and work.
Regina’s assertive spirit and keen sense of humor were unforgettable. Before any of her family members could walk into her house or room, she would always give a playful warning: “Don’t come in here changing my TV!” This beloved phrase became a family trademark, capturing her independence and lively personality. She often shared stories that brought laughter and joy to her family, including her memorable quip at a Mike Epps comedy show, remarking, “All I see is ass and elbows!” as the crowd hurried into the cold winter night. Her love for life extended to sports, world news, and quiet moments of solitude, where she could enjoy complete silence. She kept up with all of the 2024 election news and was rooting for a history making moment, of Kamala Harris becoming the first female President.
In addition, Regina is preceded in death by her mother, Anne K. Robinson; her father, Kennis Robinson; her sister, Kimberly Crosby; and her son, Marcus Austin. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, David Austin; her devoted children, Parris Austin and Swan Austin; cherished grandchildren, Latrell, Alexis, Mackenzie, and Nile; great-grandchildren, Sanarah, Elijah, and Shiloh; her dear sister, Adrienne McIver; sister-in-law, Sarah Austin-Lee; and brother-in-law, Jerry Austin, and his wife, Dorothy. Regina’s beloved nieces and nephews—Shea, Labriah, Lavonte, Lakevie, Lastacia, Kennis, Gabriel, and Sheharah—also mourn her passing and celebrate her legacy. They will all cherish her example of strength during difficult times and advice to always take a moment to reflect on decisions before acting.
