Rev. Luther Earl Cooper, age 77, of Carrollton, Georgia passed away Saturday, January 10, 2009. He was born in Simpson, Mississippi, the son of the late Mr. James Luther Cooper and the late Mrs. Edna Earl Thames. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps., having served during the Korean Conflict. Rev. Cooper graduated from Hines Junior College in Raymond, Mississippi and received his Bachelorâs degree in business from the University of Mississippi in Clinton, Mississippi. He received his Master in Divinity from Emory University in 1970. Rev. Cooper became an elder on June 8, 1970 and was ordained in 1971. He served as pastor in many Methodist churches in Mississippi and Georgia. During his tenure as pastor at Midway Methodist Church in Douglasville, he oversaw the building of the sanctuary and fellowship hall and personally placed the cross on the steeple. Rev. Cooper was a member of the Concord United Methodist Church in Carrollton. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mrs. Gracie Storey Cooper; his children, James and Georgette Cooper, David and Kyong Cooper, Robert and Annette Richardson and Phillip and Nancy Cooper; his sisters, Katye Summerlin and Betty Andre; his grandchildren, Chris and Amy Bond, Micah Cooper, Chris and Crystal Cooper, Chris and Amanda Paul, Jacob Cooper, Alisha Cooper, Leslie and Jordan Seda, Tasha and Chris King, Chelsea and Tim Schiff, Shannon Cooper and Caitlyn Cooper; his great grandchildren, Thomas Cooper, Jadyn Cooper, Joshua King, Cadey Cooper, Ambrie Cooper, Austin King, Sara Cooper, Gabby Cooper, Brayden King and Cayden Paul; and many nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Douglasville with Rev. Gary Lawrence, Rev. Billy Pittman and Rev. Linda Hessel officiating. Musical selections will be rendered by Chris Bond, James Cooper, David Cooper and Joe Styron. Interment will follow at Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery in Carrollton, Georgia.
