Rev. Newman Edward “Shorty” Camp, 89, formerly of Temple, Georgia passed away Monday, August 8, 2005 at Haralson Nursing and Rehab Center in Bremen, Georgia. He was born July 25, 1916, in Carroll County, Georgia. He was the son of the late Noah Camp and the late Ellen Martin Camp. Rev. Camp was a veteran of United States Army Infantry having served during World War II. He was a member of Valley View Baptist Church. Rev. Camp worked as a mechanic. In addition to his parents, Rev. Camp was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Lucille Hammond Camp; two children, Wendell Ray Camp and Nellie Ruth Camp Carden; two brothers, Selmer Camp and James Camp; and three sisters, Maggie Lee Cheeves, Orine Sharin and Luvena Craig. Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Loretta and E. J. Jones of Tallapoosa and Deana Knight of Pascagoula, Mississippi; two sisters, Lona Mae McCain of Bremen, and Louise Hunt of Palmetta; two brothers, Johnnie Camp of Douglasville and A. D. Camp of Covington; 10 Grandchildren; 20 Great Grandchildren; 4 Great Great Grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, August 11, 2005 at 2:00 PM from Valley View Baptist Church with Rev. Joey Martin and Rev. Wendell Hurston officiating. Interment will follow at Asbury Cemetery in Temple, Georgia. The family will be receiving friends at the family residence at 199 Chestnut Street, Tallapoosa, Georgia, 30176.
