Rev. Thomas Cecil Land, age 88, of Douglasville, passed away Friday, May 1, 2009 at Wellstar Douglas Hospital in Douglasville, Georgia. He was born November 4, 1920 in Douglas County, Georgia, the son of the late Mr. Robert Land and the late Mrs. Iceola Strawn Land. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corp having served in the Pacific during World War II. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1948 and attended at Beulah Heights Bible School. Mr. Land worked as a maintenance engineer for Equitable Life Insurance in Atlanta. He was a retired Church of God minister. He was dedicated to his family, his church and the Atlanta Braves. In addition to his parents, Mr. Land was preceded in death by his brother, Albert Land and his granddaughter, Peggy Weeks. He is survived by his wife of over 63 years, Mrs. Catherine Terry Land of Douglasville; his daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda Weeks of Chickasaw, Alabama, Celia Land of Blakely, Georgia, Janice and David Gibbs of Villa Rica, Georgia and Karen and Edward Bennett of Douglasville, Georgia; his sister and brother-in-law, Lois and John Moore of Jonesboro; 16 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, May 4, 2009 at 1:00PM from the Northside Church of God in Atlanta, Georgia with Rev. Bill Smith and Rev. Lewis Stover officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jay Payne, Chris Payne, Edward Dean, Samuel Bennett, Jacob Bennett and Trey Payne. Rev. Land will lie in state at the church from 12:00Noon until the funeral hour. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Atlanta, Georgia.
