Reverend Wesley Maxwell Smith, age 77, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Thursday, December 5, 2019. He was born July 6, 1942 in Rome, Georgia, the son of the late Reverend Robert Maxwell Smith and the late Mrs. Marjorie Mae McGill Smith. With his wife at his side, Reverend Smith was always active in God's kingdom preaching the gospel to souls at the Atlanta Union Mission, and serving as Chaplain at Garden Terrace Nursing Home for many hears. Reverend Smith and his wife participated in several mission trips to Mexico as members of what is now Clearview Baptist Church in Douglasville.
Reverend Smith is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Rita Christine Smith.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Gardner and Tammie Smith of Villa Rica, Georgia and Greg and Wendi Smith of Dallas, Georgia; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Maxine and Clyde Latta of Rome, Georgia; five grandchildren, Crystal, Breanna, Matt, MaKensey and Marymadelyn; twelve great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home of Douglasville Saturday, December 7, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, December 8, 2019 at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home of Douglasville with Reverend Bobby Wood officiating. Interment will follow at Rosehaven Cemetery.
